Rosetta Foundation

Rosetta was rescued to AAWS with a broken leg and a fractured pelvic bone. Her leg was set in a cast that had to be adjusted every week for eight weeks. Upon removing her cast, and doing an x-ray, the veterinarian discovered she was pregnant with eleven puppies. During that time, she moved around the AAWS shelter as the special lady-in-waiting.

As she was nearing her delivery date, she was placed in a foster home. She delivered six puppies, with difficulty on Christmas day. She could not birth her last five puppies due to the injury to her pelvic bone. Another surgery was done to remove her puppies that had died in the birth canal.

Rosetta came back to AAWS to recuperate and nurse her beautiful six puppies. As they grew, one was adopted and the others waited their turn.

These were good days for Rosetta. Each day, she greeted the volunteers with her little dancing routine.

On the morning of February 4, 2014, happiness left the normal pattern at AAWS. Rosetta scooted out the front door and ran to the outdoors. AAWS is located on a side road which comes to a dead end at the Cottonport water station.

Rosetta was hit by a fast moving vehicle and suffered a severe head injury. The driver made no attempt to check on her injuries. She was taken to the Veterinary Clinic of Avoyelles where whe underwent surgery and facial reconstruction. The veterinarian gave Rosetta a 75% chance of survival. It was not enough and AAWS lost part of its constitution. All of the members and volunteers will miss her terribly, for she was an important member of our organization.

To deal with the loss of Rosetta, AAWS has started the Rosetta Foundation. Funds received from this endeavor will be used to promote the health of animals in distress, along with paying Rosetta's medical bills. If you find it in your heart to support this project, you can do so by sending a donation of check or money order to: Rosetta Foundation, c/o AAWS, LLC, P.O. Box 492, Cottonport, LA 71327, or by donating to Rosetta's medical bill at the Veterinary Clinic of Avoyelles in Marksville, LA.

Thank you for your help with this most important cause.
